Evaluation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the corn drying process

The pre-processing of agricultural products has great importance in the quality product, most critical process, is drying grains, which thermal energy demanded. Since biomass burning produces polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), can be associated with carcinogenesis objective this study was to perform an assessment presence PAHs derived from maize process using Cavaco as a fuel source. experiment conducted municipality Cascavel-Paraná, storage unit located Colônia Melissa, Kepler Weber column dryer model ADS 150, capacity 150 t/h, IMTAB chip burner, 8,000,000 kcal/h. To assess PAHs, corn samples were collected at entry product into (control) and after two passes dryer, for five days, every hour during eight hours day, period harvest/2020. All results obtained below detectable limit 0.6 µg/kg. It concluded that chips burners does not significantly produce thus harming grain.
